Corridor Jazz Project celebrates student musicians

By March 27, 2019 No Comments

One of the region’s biggest jazz events, The Corridor Jazz Project, brought over 300 student musicians to the Paramount Theatre on March 5. Presented as a part of the Cedar Rapids Community Concert Association, the program was developed by KCCK, Iowa’s only jazz radio station, to provide a mentoring and performing experience to students in high school jazz band.

Each band is matched with an adult jazz performer, who records with the students as guest soloist. The resulting song is produced for the Corridor Jazz CD, a compilation of all thirteen schools. This year, the program included the top jazz bands from Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Washington, Kennedy, and Prairie, Iowa City High and Iowa City West, Mt. Vernon, Lisbon, Solon, and making its Corridor Jazz debut, the state’s newest school, Liberty High School.
