United Way: Power of the Purse+

Johnson County – More than 150 women-and a few good men-will be joining forces to raise more than $25,000 for the United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties and the communities they serve. The Power of the Purse Plus event will be held at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Center on Thursday, October 24, 2019, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and will feature a silent auction with an amazing array of more than 150 purses, raffle drawings, mystery prize presents and Party Row purchases along with wine and appetizers.

Power of the Purses’ 2019 raffle prizes will feature a showcase of original art including:

      • Bekah Ash – Oil painting
      • Virginia A. Myers – Iowa Cityscape Print
      • Nancy Purington – Signed Integrity (Poppy) Print
      • Louise Rauh Studio – Etched Metal Bowl
      • Theresa Cigrand – Requiem of Sand and Sea

Guests may purchase raffle tickets at the event $10 for one, $25 for three, or $50 for seven.

Party Row features parties, set at a future date, for guests to purchase a single or multiple tickets. This year’s parties include:

  • Wine for the Holidays!: Sommelier Jay Berry and host Nick Craig, owner of Brix, will teach you the ins and outs of pairing wine for the holidays
  • Getting in the Holiday Spirit: Creating a Special Centerpiece- Maya and Kerrie at Every Blooming Thing invite you to learn to make a holiday centerpiece and to take your creation home with you.
  • Around the World with Diamond Leaf Jewelers: Enjoy small plates and drinks from around the world as we discuss the origins of jewelry and gems.
  • Graze Party: Join Evan Harman, Head Chef, and Logan, Bartender, for the Ultimate Grazing Experience at where else?  Graze!
  • A Culinary Tour of Spain: Take a foodie’s tour of Spain with foods served from Spain’s many regions.
  • Goosetown Café Dinner!: Join owner Peter Kessler for a dinner to remember at the Goosetown Café.

New for 2019, Power of the Purse will be celebrating United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties’ 100th Year with a Birthday Party theme. Guests will not only be able to bid on many of their favorite handbag styles and brands but will also purchase a “mystery” Birthday Gift for $50.  Each gift contents includes at or more than $50 worth of value and little messages giving clues to their contents with be placed out the present.

Power of the Purse Plus is dedicated to mobilizing the caring power of women to drive positive change in our community.  Back by popular demand, Purse with a Purpose – a unique opportunity for guests to donate to support filling selected, gently used purses with personal items that will be donated to local women and teen parents.
