Organizations Partner to Provide Christmas Hope to Area Families in Need

By November 30, 2020 No Comments

The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots, are once again partnering to bring Christmas cheer and hope to children in need this holiday season.  Registration for the annual joint Christmas assistance programs begins on Monday, November 9th and runs through Monday, November 30th.  Due to social distancing requirements and damage to The Salvation Army’s facility on 1000 C Ave in Cedar Rapids, from the Derecho, registration will be online this year.

“The Salvation Army, along with our friends at Toys for Tots, are dedicated to helping families during Christmas make experience the joy of the season and making certain parents are able to put a gift under the tree and food on the table for every child”, said Captain Shawn DeBaar, corps officer for The Salvation Army.

Registration information can be found at SACedarRapids.org or by calling The Salvation Army at 319-364-9131. Toys and food will be distributed to those registered the 2nd week in December.

Toys For Tots is a national program directed by the United States Marine Corps through the Marine Toys For Tots Foundation.  The project has been active in the Cedar Rapids community since 1949 and has grown in size each year.  Locally, The Salvation Army, Toys For Tots and other community partners have collaborated to provide assistance to families in need. Last year organizers collected and distributed gifts and food to over 2,500 children throughout Linn County.

This year’s toy drive runs Friday, October 23rd – Friday, December 4th.  For more information on how you can help, visit The Salvation Army’s website or call 319-364-9131.
