With the discontinuation of the University of Iowa’s Fine Arts Council earlier this fall, Summer of the Arts was happy to step in and renew the annual Holiday Thieves Market, now called the Holiday Art Market. The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8 at the Iowa Memorial Union (125 N Madison Street), the same dates as the previous event.
This year shoppers can visit over 100 fine artists including 79 from Iowa, as well as artists from Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Virginia and Wisconsin. Many are returning favorites, but there are several first time vendors as well!
Attendees can browse the amazing ceramics, fiber, drawing, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood items. The Holiday Thieves Market ran for 50 years and several of the artists have participated for over 20 years! The booths will be set up throughout the first floor in the North Room, South Room, Lobby, Main Lounge and Hubbard Commons (all accessible off of Madison Street).
Attendance at the Holiday Art Market is free. The show will be open on Saturday, December 7th from Noon – 6 PM and Sunday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
The Summer of the Arts is a nonprofit that produces the Iowa Arts Festival presented by Veridian Credit Union, Iowa City Jazz Festival presented by GreenState Credit Union, Friday Night Concert Series presented by Toyota of Iowa City, Iowa Soul & Blues Festival, presented by MidAmerican Energy and the Free Movie Series co-presented by Urban Acres Real Estate and GreenState Credit Union.
The mission of Summer of the Arts is to build community by bringing people together in the heart of Iowa City to experience, learn about, and enjoy free arts and cultural programs.
