Summer of the Arts is excited to continue a collaborative project with Toyota of Iowa City to support and promote young, local, Johnson County artists. Creating a Legacy of Local Artists is a project which supports and encourages emerging artists (age 16-25) to pursue a career in the arts by providing the opportunity for their first commissioned piece.
Applications are now being accepted for an opportunity to create an original piece of commissioned artwork that will be featured at the Iowa Arts Festival June 5 – June 7, then showcased at various locations around the area, including Toyota of Iowa City. According to owner Mark Dreusicke, “Toyota of Iowa City and the Dreusicke family are pleased to again provide an opportunity for our young, local yet-to-be discovered artists. By commissioning one of our neighbors to complete an original piece of art, we hope to showcase the artist’s creativity and talent to those inside and outside the community. Toyota of Iowa City is proud to be a partner with the Summer of the Arts, and we look forward to seeing you during Arts Fest and the Friday Night Concert Series downtown! “
Artists living in Johnson County, Iowa, who are between the ages of 16-25 are eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 25, 2020. The selected artist will be notified by April 5, 2020, and receive a commission totaling $3,000 for their original work. The piece must be completed by May 10, 2020.
