In Alcott’s fictionalized America, a reclusive astronaut named Vincent Kahn was the first man to walk on the moon and an heiress turned violent revolutionary named Fay Fern dies in a demonstration about how the Apollo program is a distraction from the Vietnam War. Before all that, though, Vincent and Fay have an affair, and Fay has, unbeknownst to Vincent, a son, who grows up trying to find his father and understand his mother’s legacy.

Capote, with help from his friend Harper Lee, interviewed residents of Holcomb, Kansas about the 1959 murders of four members of the Herbert Clutter family. In Cold Blood is the second-best selling true crime book ever (after Helter Skelter).
