First published in 1847, Jane Eyre is considered a classic by many. It was unique for its time, as it gave a more realistic portrayal of the life of a woman and of her inner struggles and her social condition.

Wednesday, May 12 : The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins
Originally published in 1860, Collins’s novel is considered to be among the first mystery novels and helped inspire many “sensation” novels, as well as plays, television, musicals, and a comic-strip. The Woman in White has never been out of print.

Thursday, May 20 : Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
This novel follows Gifty, a PhD student in neuroscience, who is dealing with issues of faith, science, family, addiction, and the African immigrant experience. Gyasi is the author of the critically acclaimed 2016 novel Homegoing.
