Dreamwell Theatre: “Tragedy: A Tragedy” and Announcing QueertopIA

By April 24, 2019 No Comments

Dreamwell Theatre is proud to present “Tragedy: A Tragedy” by Will Eno, April 26 and 27, and May 3 and 4, at Public Space One 120 N. Dubuque St., Iowa City (in the basement of the Wesley Center).

Tickets are $13 regular, $10 student/seniors. Tickets can be purchased on our tickets page or at the door. Saturday, April 27, is also Pay What You Can night, continuing our goal of making theater accessible to everyone.

This play is an absurdist comedy set in the world of a local news broadcast dealing with a cataclysmic event. The sun has set over the neighborhoods, government buildings and American backyards everywhere. A news team is on the way. Their report: someone left the lawn sprinklers on; someone’s horse is on the loose; a seashell is lying in the grass; dogs run by. The Governor appeals for calm. Everyone doesn’t know if the sun, once down, will ever rise again.

The cast is:
Frank in the studio – Duane Larson
John in the field – Nick Kilburg
Constance at the Home – Jessica Wilson
Michael (legal advisor) – Gavin Conkling
Witness – Brian Kleis

Announcing QueertopIA!
Dreamwell Theatre is excited to announce QueertopIA, an evening of short works coming up in June!

We are looking for local LGBTQ+ voices to fill the stage. Join us in celebrating and commemorating Pride, and help us create a night to remember! We’re honoring “Queertopia”, a longstanding tradition of an all inclusive, no holds barred “cabaret of queer love” started in Minneapolis by Jeffry Lusiak and carried on by Nastalie Q. Queertopia has been going strong in the Twin Cities for over a decade. We are excited to begin our own tradition here in Iowa City!

Message Madonna at to share your idea for your short plays, songs, spoken word, stand up, dance, puppet shows, or favorite form of expression with us. The theme, and subject matter of work submitted is not limited to any criteria. Ideally, pieces should run about 5-10 minutes. Please include details about your idea, your cast, your director, and any other information that is helpful for staging. If you know you will need help from Dreamwell, let us know that too. We are accepting ideas until May 1, 2019. Thank you!
