Summer of the Arts is pleased to announce that they received a $5,000 grant from the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation on behalf of Kum & Go in support of the Friday Night Concert Series.
Kum & Go recognizes the importance of arts and culture to building vibrant and engaged communities. They support programs that provide exposure to a wide variety of arts and cultural experiences and encourages all populations to express themselves creatively.
The Friday Night Concert Series started in 1993 and provides opportunities for both local and regional bands to perform outdoors, free to the public each week from mid-May through August in downtown Iowa City. The series brings 1,000-1,500 people to the heart of Iowa City and features a variety of musical styles from folk to bluegrass, to jazz, to Soul and more. Concerts run from 6:30 – 9:30 PM during the summer.
The Summer of the Arts produces the Iowa Arts Festival presented by Veridian Credit Union, Iowa City Jazz Festival presented by the University of Iowa Community Credit Union, Friday Night Concert Series presented by Toyota of Iowa City, Soul & Blues Festival presented by MidWestOne Bank and the Free Movie Series co-presented by Urban Acres Real Estate and UICCU.
