Mara Gilgannon does not want to go back to her small town Iowa home—but her aunt was just murdered and there’s a giant Walmart opening, and due to her aunt’s feelings on the subject, Mara knows they might be related. Iowa author Vermillion teaches at Mount Mercy University.

Novel Conversations is a book group that alternates between classic novels and more recent works of fiction and nonfiction. Participants are welcome to come to all the meetings or just those that sound interesting. Multiple copies of each book are available for checkout in the library and are, whenever possible, made available in large print, audiobook, and ebook editions.
Novel Conversations meets the third Thursday of each month from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Board Room. Refreshments are served!
Niloo becomes a refugee from Iran as a young child an comes to America while her father remains in Iran. Over the next two decades, as she grows up moves from America to England to Amsterdam, she meets with her father four times in different cities, always hoping to find a connection, always looking—as the refugees she sees around her everywhere she goes—for a home.
