The History Center commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Douglas Starch Works Explosion, an event with repercussions for the entirety of Linn County – including the workers at the plant, local residents, business owners , and beyond.
The exhibit explores the disaster itself as well as the days immediately following. It’s a story of tragedy and resilience – and it’s a story of community coming together at a moment that could have sown division.

As 2019 winds to a close we’ll gather to pause and reminisce. What blessings did the year present? How did they help you to unwrap the gift of life that sits within you? How will you choose to share that gift with others?
Noelle Holmes of Illuminations Healing Arts Center will lead you through this guided meditation, perfect for anyone from beginners to experienced meditators. “Mother Goose on the Loose” is a 20-minute nursery rhyme program for newborns to three-year-olds, followed by a 30-minute playtime. This program helps strengthen babies’ and toddlers’ foundation for literacy with rhymes, rhythm, repetition, story and movement.
