Mother Goose on the Loose @ Downtown Library - Cedar Rapids

“Mother Goose on the Loose” is a 20-minute nursery rhyme program for newborns to three-year-olds, followed by a 30-minute playtime. This program helps strengthen babies’ and toddlers’ foundation for literacy with rhymes, rhythm, repetition, story and movement.

Held in the Children’s Storytime Room. Program lasts approximately 25 minutes.

Occurs regularly on Thursdays. Wee Read occurs at 10:15 am with a repeat program at 11:15 am.  Please choose either time.

Ever wondered what it might be like to perform in a traveling circus? Join us for daring feats, thrilling stunts, and maybe a little clowning around. Wear your PJ’s and bring a stuffed friend to cuddle with. We’ll meet in the galleries for stories at 6:30pm, surrounded by the artwork in the galleries, and then create a work of art to take home. It’s free for kids & their adult companions.

Reading to Dogs @ Ladd Library
Feb 20 @ 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm

Make new furry friends as you improve your reading skills! Trained, certified therapy dogs provide comfortable companionship to emerging readers as they earn a free library book and bookmark. Everyone welcome to read to the dogs.Then stay as the pups perform at 7 p.m.! Presented in partnership with Therapy Dogs International.

STEAM Saturdays @ Ladd Library

Saturday mornings are for investigation! Elementary aged children and parents/guardians/ care-givers are invited to participate in a STEAM project that they will work on individually or with others.

Participants will be encouraged to share their findings or work with the group. We will also celebrate the scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and artists who inspired today’s project.

Cornell’s active steel drum program is one of the most sought-after performing groups on campus. The steel drum program has been a part of the Cornell College Music Department for 20 years and its bands have toured extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally. Directed by Dr. Martin Hearne.
