The History Center – Book Reading @ The History Center
Nov 2 @ 10:30 am – 11:30 am

The book is entitled Kaleidoscope, and consists of over 80 short remembrances from everyday life. The stories are the type of stories that were shared at family reunions in earlier decades.

The reading will include portions of Robert Chadima’s “Melting Assets” about the ice industry, Anita Burke’s “River Bottom Farm” in which she shares childhood memories about her family farm which the U.S. Corps of Engineers took by eminent domain to create the Coralville Reservoir, Carol Wohlleben’s “The Class Act,” about the formation of the Culinary Arts Program at Kirkwood, and Racheal Davis’ “The Midnight Ride” about her ancestor William Dawes who in 1775 reached Concord, Massachusetts to warn the patriots that “The British Are Coming”.  Henry Wordsworth Longfellow’s poem credits Paul Revere. However, that is not historically true. Revere never made it to Concord. He was captured shortly after leaving Lexington.

This event is free and open to the public.
