Join National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library staff on a walking food tour of historic Czech Village. Learn about the unique history behind this fascinating neighborhood while sampling food and drinks. Special stories associated with food and restaurants in the Village will be highlighted.

Tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes. Meet at the NCSML’s clock tower (corner of 16th Ave SW and Inspiration Pl SW) by 6:00 p.m. Parking is available in the museum’s lots or in Czech Village. The museum’s parking garage will not be open for this program. In case of thunderstorms/lightning, a rain date will be posted. Please make note of any dietary restrictions when purchasing your ticket or feel free to contact Teresa Stenstrup, Director of Programs, at tstenstrup@ncsml.org or 319.362.8500.

In this fun and informative hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the medieval gardens of famous women physickers, sometimes known as “witches”. You’ll be able to design your own herbal gardens using charts provided and concoct teas documented in recovered manuscripts using herbs out in the garden. Relax with any adult beverages you choose to bring while sample hors d’oeuvres and taste some contemporary spins on medieval teas and elixers, and then make your favorite combinations into tea satchels that you can take home.

We are very happy to be at Rapid Creek Cidery for this special Thursday night History on Tap! Bees are critical pollinators who keep our plants blooming and food growing, but they are declining. Hear from Steve Hendrix, Professor Emeritus at the University of Iowa Department Of Biology to learn what you can do in your backyard to support Iowa’s native bees. Food and drink will be available for purchase from Rapid Creek Cidery, and there may even bee some honey options.

The History Center – Mother & Daughter Tea @ The History Center

The History Center has many amazing upcoming programs, one of which is our Mother & Daughter Tea. This event will take place on May 19th at 2:00 PM.

The Mother & Daughter Tea is a fun opportunity for mothers and daughters to dress up, crook their pinkies while eating tiny sandwiches, sipping tea, and spending quality time together. Enjoy a presentation on table etiquette from long-long ago, participate in silly table games, take pictures at a photo booth and more.

Seating is limited. Tickets for this event must be purchased in advanced.

Ridiculous Day: Saturday June 1 from 9 a.m. to around 2 p.m. consists of activity booths, sidewalk sales, superhero and princess contest registration, photo booths, food, a parade, and free Bomb Pops!

Flightline Live: Saturday June 1 Tickets 5 dollars in advance 8 at the door. 5 p.m. Fareway will be grilling your food doors open, three different performers, 9 p.m. stone wall brick oven pizza, ends around 11 p.m.

Latino Festival: Sunday, June 2 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Breakfast 7-11, Spanish mass 11:30-12:30, MORE food 12:30-6 p.m.
