STEAM Saturdays @ Ladd Library

Saturday mornings are for investigation! Elementary aged children and parents/guardians/ care-givers are invited to participate in a STEAM project that they will work on individually or with others.

Participants will be encouraged to share their findings or work with the group. We will also celebrate the scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and artists who inspired today’s project.

Mother Goose on the Loose @ Ladd Library

“Mother Goose on the Loose” is a 20-minute nursery rhyme program for newborns to three-year-olds, followed by a 30-minute playtime. This program helps strengthen babies’ and toddlers’ foundation for literacy with rhymes, rhythm, repetition, story and movement.

School’s out for the day! Each School’s Out program for children K-5 will give children the chance to try something new, fun (and maybe messy!). School’s Out programs provide a stimulating hour for elementary school children on days when school is not in session. Join us for an hour of playing and creating with clay. We will use a type of clay that you can take home and bake in your oven.

King in the Wilderness @ Coralville Center for the Performing Arts

Join us at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts for a free public screening of the critically acclaimed documentary King in the Wilderness, which examines the last three years of Dr. King’s life and his continuing belief in nonviolent political action in the face of the Black Power movement and his opposition to the Vietnam War in the face of fierce criticism from former allies including President Lyndon Johnson.

The screening is part of the Coralville Public Library’s Martin Luther King Day Observance and is jointly sponsored by the Coralville Public Library and the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Looking for more ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day?  In the morning, join the 2020 MLK Day of Service. Find service projects from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at various locations on the 2020 MLK Day of Service volunteer page.  After the movie King in the Wilderness, join us at 5:00 pm in the Coralville Public Library’s Rotunda for a public reading of Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream Speech”.
