Saturdays at the Stanley: Artists, Travelers, & Immigrants @ Online via Zoom
Oct 10 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Join Brady Plunger, associate curator of education, for a discussion about artists who were also immigrants (like Hans Hofman and Lil Picard). We’ll explore how the movement of people and ideas into, out of, and around the US created new possibilities for artists during the first half of the twentieth century.

Join us on Zoomhttps://uiowa.zoom.us/j/96932650776

Saturdays at the Stanley brings the museum’s collection to you in a casual, fun, and interactive atmosphere. Each event has a theme – game day, frenemies, cats – that looks at our artwork from a different perspective. Curators lead visitors through a selection of works, share stories about the artists and subject matter, and open the discussion up to the audience. We invite visitors of all ages to participate in these conversations and get (re)acquainted with our collection as we look forward to the opening of our new building!

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the SMA in advance at 319-335-1727.

Stanley Quiz Show – Art & Museum Trivia @ Online (registration required)
Oct 20 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

It’s time to get quizzical with the Stanley Museum of Art’s Stanley Quiz Show! Join us for a live virtual trivia game on Zoom hosted by Brady Plunger, associate curator of education and unabashed lover of gameshow couture. Other members of the museum staff, including superstar director Lauren Lessing, will make guest appearances to give you the 411 on the museum construction project and our plans for moving our extraordinary collections into our new home.

This game will feature four rounds of questions about art, museums, and our beloved University of Iowa. And don’t worry, you won’t need a Ph.D. in art history—people with all levels of art knowledge can play to win!

You can play as an individual, as a household, or on a “remote” team with friends or loved ones further afield.

The first-place team will receive a $75 gift card; second place a $50 gift card; and third place a $35 gift card from a local business.

We’ll be playing via Zoom. If your team will not be sharing a device, please have each member register (to ensure they get the Zoom link) and then designate one person to submit answers on behalf of your team. You’ll probably want to communicate with your team via a secondary mode such as texting, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts.

FREE. Register before noon, October 19: https://uiowa.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_40ogAGebEKAor9r
