|Advocating for the Iowa Cultural Trust Fund|
As some of you
may already know, Republicans in the Iowa legislature have agreed on a plan to
balance the state budget which includes significant cuts to the arts.
Particularly troubling is the plan to transfer the entire balance of the
state’s $6.1 million Cultural Trust Fund to other programs to save them from
Income from the
trust fund is awarded to non-profit arts entities in the form of matching
grants which are key to leveraging private funding from non-governmental
sources. This fund makes the future possible for so many arts organizations and
the communities they serve.
There is more
information about the fund, which was established in recognition of the vital
economic importance of the arts in Iowa, and the legislative plans to balance
the budget in the links below.
I urge you to get
in touch with your legislators right away and tell them why this is a bad
choice for Iowa. Contact information for your legislators can be found here. https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/find
