Advocates and Organizations Honored at Celebration of the Arts
Posted: 11/16/2016

The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) announced the winners of the 2016 Collaboration and Reaching Out Awards at Celebration of the Arts on November 15. The annual awards are designed to recognize ICCA partner organizations for their most innovative collaborative programming throughout the year. The ICCA Celebration of the Arts annual meeting luncheon was held at Hancher Auditorium and featured a keynote presentation by University of Iowa Provost, P. Barry Butler.

The ICCA Collaboration Award recognizes successful collaborations between ICCA members. The African American Museum of Iowa and the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre were recognized for their collaboration on organizing "Carefully Taught – A Performance & Discussion about Inclusion & the Arts."

The Reaching Out Award recognizes a successful partnership between an ICCA member and a non-member organization. Summer of the Arts and Oaknoll Retirement Residence were recognized for organizing the Oaknoll Concert Series for the residence's 50th anniversary.

All ICCA partner organizations were eligible to nominate programming and vote on the ballot.

Individual awards were presented to Kevin Hanick as the recipient of the 2016 Larry Eckholt Award and Kathy Hall as the recipient of the 2016 Peggy Whitworth Award. The Eckholt Award is sponsored by the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and recognizes a leader and advocate of the arts in the southern part of the Corridor, while the Whitworth Award is sponsored by GO Cedar Rapids and recognizes a leader and advocate of the arts in the northern part of the Corridor.

Celebration of the Arts is ICCA’s annual meeting event, intended to elevate the awareness of the artistic and cultural organizations in the Corridor and to celebrate the outstanding collaborations of ICCA partners.

Celebration of the Arts was made possible thanks to generous support provided by our Celebration Sponsors: Veridian Credit UnionHills Bank and Trust Company, and MidAmerican Energy; additional support was provided by our Arts Sponsor: University of Iowa Community Credit Union.
