The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) announced
the winners of the 2013 Collaboration and Reaching Out Awards at Celebration of the Arts on November 12. The
annual awards are designed to recognize ICCA partner organizations for their most innovative collaborative
programming throughout the year. The ICCA Celebration of the Arts annual meeting luncheon, presented by the
Eastern Iowa Airport, was held at the Cedar Rapids Public Library and featured
keynote speaker Harlan Brownlee, President and CEO of ArtsKC .
The ICCA Collaboration Award recognizes successful collaborations between
ICCA members. Theatre Cedar Rapids and Orchestra Iowa were recognized for their collaboration to present an in-concert production of America’s favorite Broadway
musical, The Music Man.
The Reaching Out Award recognizes
a successful partnership between an ICCA member and a non-member
organization. Brucemore was recognized
for its collaboration with 4H Youth Council, Cedar
Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, Custom Custard, East Central Iowa
Beekeepers/ Noble Bee Honey, HACAP Local Food Task Force, Hy-Vee, Iowa Valley
Co-Op, Iowa Valley Resource Conservation and Development, Prairiewoods,
Soilmates-New Pioneer Co-Op, and Tiny But Mighty Popcorn. The groups work
jointly to present Chew On This, a program that educates young people and informs the public
about locally grown food and sustainable farming and gardening practices.
All 150 ICCA partner
organizations were eligible to nominate programming and vote on the ballot.
Individual awards were presented to Josh
Schamberger as the recipient of the 2013 Larry Eckholt Award and Terry Pitts as
the recipient of the 2013 Peggy Whitworth Award for Arts and Cultural Advocacy. The Eckholt Award recognizes a community
member in the Southern part of the Corridor, while the Peggy Whitworth Award recognizes
a member of the Northern part of the Corridor.

Celebration of the Arts is ICCA’s annual meeting event, intended to elevate the awareness
of the artistic and cultural organizations in the Corridor and to celebrate the
outstanding collaborations of ICCA partners.
