Posted: 11/13/2013

The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) announced the winners of the 2013 Collaboration and Reaching Out Awards at Celebration of the Arts on November 12. The annual awards are designed to recognize ICCA partner organizations for their most innovative collaborative programming throughout the year. The ICCA Celebration of the Arts annual meeting luncheon, presented by the Eastern Iowa Airport, was held at the Cedar Rapids Public Library and featured keynote speaker Harlan Brownlee, President and CEO of ArtsKC .

The ICCA Collaboration Award recognizes successful collaborations between ICCA members. Theatre Cedar Rapids and Orchestra Iowa were recognized for their collaboration to present an in-concert production of America’s favorite Broadway musical, The Music Man.

The Reaching Out Award recognizes a successful partnership between an ICCA member and a non-member organization. Brucemore was recognized for its collaboration with 4H Youth Council, Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, Custom Custard, East Central Iowa Beekeepers/ Noble Bee Honey, HACAP Local Food Task Force, Hy-Vee, Iowa Valley Co-Op, Iowa Valley Resource Conservation and Development, Prairiewoods, Soilmates-New Pioneer Co-Op, and Tiny But Mighty Popcorn. The groups work jointly to present Chew On This, a program that educates young people and informs the public about locally grown food and sustainable farming and gardening practices.

All 150 ICCA partner organizations were eligible to nominate programming and vote on the ballot.

Individual awards were presented to Josh Schamberger as the recipient of the 2013 Larry Eckholt Award and Terry Pitts as the recipient of the 2013 Peggy Whitworth Award for Arts and Cultural Advocacy. The Eckholt Award recognizes a community member in the Southern part of the Corridor, while the Peggy Whitworth Award recognizes a member of the Northern part of the Corridor.

"It is important to recognize and celebrate the significance of arts and culture in our community," said Jessica Johnson, ICCA Executive Director. "We have a deep spirit of cooperation and collaboration in Iowa’s Creative Corridor that we can all be very proud of."
