|ICCA Announces Celebration of the Arts|
The Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance (ICCA) has announced details for its inaugural CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS event on Tuesday, November 15, featuring nationally-recognized arts advocacy speaker Jay Dick. The 5:00-7:00 p.m. event, held at the newly-renovated CSPS Hall, will include presentation of the Cultural Advocate and Larry Eckholt Awards to community arts leaders and collaboration honors to ICCA partner organizations in addition to the organization’s year in review and keynote from Jay Dick.
“The evening will be an exciting opportunity for us to gather the arts community together in celebration of our many successes while also addressing some of the important issues that motivate our continuing collaboration,” said Marcia Hughes, ICCA Board President.
Iowa native Jay Dick will speak about arts funding and the impact of political events on the support of the arts. His call to action will emphasize a need for greater arts advocacy.
Dick serves as the Director of State and Local Government Affairs at Americans for the Arts in Washington, D.C., where he works cooperatively with state and local arts advocacy and service organizations and oversees the Americans for the Arts’ Public Partnerships. He also works with the National Governors Association, National Lt. Governors Association, National Conference of State Legislators, National Association of Counties, The United States Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities.
“We’re very pleased to offer ICCA partners and the corridor community this opportunity to hear from such a distinguished national leader in the area of arts funding and advocacy,” Hughes added. “The arts serve to create a more vibrant and creative cultural community and there is an ever-increasing need to strengthen awareness and appreciation of their value to the economic well-being of a region. Jay is the perfect person to inspire that conversation.”
The ICCA Celebration for the Arts is open to the community. Tickets are $9 and on sale now by contacting CSPS at 319-364-1580 or www.legionarts.org.
