Grab a beer and hear Rudolph Daniels share the fascinating history and incredible stories of U.S. railroad operations that occurred during WWI. American production of tracks and equipment was absolutely astounding, not to mention the logistics of transporting locomotives and cars to three regions of the globe, including Siberia.

Cost: Free, registration preferred.
All food and drink to be purchased at Quarter Barrel.
Happy Hour Specials: 1/2 price house beers and 1/2 price appetizers from 3-6pm on weekdays.

Reading to Dogs @ Ladd Library

Make new furry friends and improve your reading skills! Several Therapy Dogs International pups will be at Ladd Library the 3rd Thursday each month for kids to meet, greet, and read to. No pre-registration necessary; just drop in at 6:30 pm. And stay until 7 pm when our talented canines will perform some tricks.

The History Center – Oral Histories LIVE! Featuring Herman Ginsberg @ The History Center

The Ginsberg family has been running the Ginsberg Jewelers store in Cedar Rapids for almost 100 years. Their store was located downtown until the flood in 2008 led them to relocate. Herman grew up in the family business and has been a long-time advocate of the downtown community, especially of retail stores. Come hear Herman’s great recollections of downtown retail, especially during the holiday seasons of the past.

Admission for this event is $5.00 for members and $7.00 for general public at the door. Beer, wine, soda, and water will be available for purchase during the event.

The Stanley Museum of Art welcomes Lena Stringari to speak about her work as a conservator, educator, and museum leader. Stringari has transformed the stewardship of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum collection into an animating force to advance the mission of the twenty-first-century museum. She will discuss recent projects where the care of collections has led to significant contributions to the art-historical, theoretical, and scientific interpretations of the objects in the care of the Guggenheim.
