A History of Beauty ~ lecture at Hiawatha Public Library

Monday, September 18, 2017; 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Cedar Rapids Museum of Art

This Cedar Rapids Museum of Art-sponsored free lecture is being held at the Hiawatha Public Library.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it also has a lot to do with the beholder's cultural standards. Images of today’s beauty idols like the Kardashians, Beyoncé, and hundreds of Instagram celebrities are omnipresent in society. But before our media-soaked age it was largely artists who documented the beauty archetypes of the time. Join CRMA Associate Curator Kate Kunau to look at how ideal beauty has changed in Western society throughout time, from ancient Rome to the twentieth century.
