By April 8, 2019 No Comments
The 18th Annual Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival is coming up this weekend, Friday, April 12th and Saturday, April 13th, 2019. Forty films covering all genres and lengths will be showcased. The full list of films, film descriptions, the festival schedule, and tickets are available at crifm.org.
Two special presentations will be held in conjunction with the festival. A discussion with the screenwriters of 2018 blockbuster horror film A Quiet Place, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods of Bluebox Films will take place Saturday April 13 at 3:45 p.m. The duo, long-time CRIFF entrants and friends of the festival, will discuss their journey from childhood filmmaking in Bettendorf, IA to current success and projects in Hollywood. Upcoming projects include The BOOGEYMAN for 20th Century Fox and 21 Laps (an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story), post-production on their film Haunt, and development of a project that they will write and direct for Paramount. Visit blueboxfilms.com for further information on their work.
A screening of Do We Belong?, a documentary short about a senseless hate crime in 2017 that resulted in the fatal shooting of Indian immigrant Srinivas Kuchibhotla, leaving his wife Sunayana to question whether America is truly her home. The film explores these events and the attempts to find healing. A panel discussion with Sunayana Dumala, Srinivas’ wife; Sarika Bhakta of Nikeya Diversity; and Bhumika Nayak and Kanu Salaria, Srinivas’ friends and co-workers will follow the screening.
Both special presentations are included with Saturday afternoon session tickets or full-event passes.
Registration for the MediaMasters Workshops presented by Produce Iowa is open. Information on the two classes, Sound Recording and Mixing and Production Assistant Boot Camp, can be found at crifm.org.
